I haven’t had time to post much here lately, but I’ve been enjoying lots of horse shoots and lots of sunflower shoots this summer! If you missed out on sunflowers, by the way,, just shoot me your email address and I’ll be sure to send you sunflower booking dates for 2021 as soon as I have those set up. I’ve also created some new blocks of fall mini-sessions specials to accommodate everyone who might be looking for Christmas card photos—check those out on my offerings page.
Spring is here, part 2!
I’ve had my busiest May of shooting since I opened up shop, but it’s been a great time! Here are a few highlights, but if you follow along on Facebook, I’ll post plenty more there.
Sunflower sessions!
Sunflowers summer 2020 are a wrap! I shot these during the Alvis Farms 2nd Annual Sunflower Festival in Manakin (a few minutes outside of short pump). The sunflowers were spectacular, the field was huge, and the sunset was great the night I was out there! Looking forward to more—if you’re interested, contact me to ask about some later-summer options at additional farm location or catching me during next year’s summer special at Alvis Farms :)
A 2020 graduation shoot (with cows)
My client loves cows and just graduated, so she asked if we could do a celebratory shoot hanging out with some cows. SAY NO MORE! This is my most favorite sort of thing.
Many thanks to Richlands Dairy Farm for hosting - your girls were very sweet as always!
Spring is here!
I’ve had a couple shoots lately with unseasonably warm weather, so it’s always a bummer when you get a cold and windy day to shoot, but these guys took it like champs for our family session + cupcake smash at Richlands Dairy Farm.
Little Red Wagon One-Year Session
Waylon is turning one! The last time I saw him, we shot his six-month photos. It has been neat to watch all these little babies growing up so fast!
Horse+Rider Portrait Sessions at Pine Crest Farm
I love getting out to meet new barns, and I somehow had not yet been to Pine Crest Farm until this month, for a set of awesome horse and rider shoots with lesson riders and some boarders. This barn is right behind the facility where I did my first CVSJA jumper show quite a few years ago, out in Manakin. Beautiful place, beautiful light coming through the driveway trees, and a wonderful barn family that I enjoyed meeting of the course of several days! Thank you all for having me, Pine Crest! Here are just a few from some of those sessions.
Even more sunflowers!
We trekked out to a new spot in the field at Alvis Farms that I hadn’t used before, and there was a perfect tree behind us to diffuse the sun. I loved this spot!
More sunflowers!
As I edit through the latest round of shoots this week, I have to go ahead and share a bunch from last Thursday's mini sessions at Alvis Farms LLC. Editing this sweet mom-daughter duo made my day! We had a great time out in the sunflowers--I'm doing one more set out there tomorrow while the flowers are still in bloom, and then we will just have to wait until next year to get back out :) See lots more from this mother-daughter shoot here.
Mike + Sarah | Married
This couple got married at the Jamestown 4-H setting, which provided a lovely view of the James River and some handy beaches for wedding party photos. They had a beautiful day and I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to capture it! View more from their day here.
Erin + Will | Married
It is hard to beat a barn wedding when that barn is right in the backyard of your childhood home. Erin and Will picked a beautiful day to celebrate with friends and family and they transformed their Amelia County family farm into a pretty awesome venue for a wedding day! Congratulations, guys! See more highlights from their day here.

Roberta and Ponies
It’s been a little while since I’ve had the chance to shoot some horse images—I love these! Roberta has two really sweet geldings, and they even match <3. See the rest of her shoot here!
Twins and Sunflowers
It's not every day that you get to photograph twins as cute as these two! This family is the sweetest and this farm was the perfect setting for their portraits. We caught the sunflowers at just the right time! See more from the shoot on Facebook.
Caitlin's Farm Portraits
If you don't know her, Caitlin is a sweet and hard-working person who loves her brother and loves caring for her cows on her family's land--she and I share a love for photography, too! I visited with her earlier this week to shoot some images of her doing what she loves. See more from the shoot on Facebook.
Dairy Farm Mini Sessions
Last fall, I joined up with my friends at Richlands Dairy Farm in Blackstone to offer dairy farm mini sessions during their fall festival--we had so much fun that we decided to offer them again during the farm's June Family Farm Day!
Maddy + Z Fall Equine Portrait Session
Maddy was often one of my photography test subjects back when I first got started (and I shot most of my first-ever sessions back here at this same farm--it's got great scenery!), so it was nice to get back out for some updated images with her. It got dark on us fast, but these turned out to be some of my favorites of 2017 so far. I love the colors that show up under a clipped horse! Check out more images from the session here.
Emily + Dylan
Congrats to these two on their recent engagement! We had a lovely night getting these photos at Dylan's family farm, with the horses making an appearance.
Cows and Calves
I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph Richlands Dairy Farm in Dinwiddie County this weekend. The place is full of happy cows, happy calves, and the family's enthusiasm for sharing their passion for dairy farming with the public. Follow them (Richlands Dairy Farm on Facebook) to hear about their events and catch a glimpse of daily chores! Great people, great farm.
